Professor Ir Tian Belawati
Universitas Terbuka (UT, or Indonesia Open University)

Prof Ir Tian Belawati is a professor at Universitas Terbuka (UT, or Indonesia Open University). She obtained her PhD in Adult Education from the University of British Columbia, Canada.

Acknowledged as a leading global expert in open and distance learning (ODL) for the past two decades, she has served UT for over 30 years. Prof Ir Tian was the Rector of UT from 2009 to 2017 and prior to that, she has held various leadership positions, including Head of Centre for Indonesian Studies with the Research Institute (1996-2001) and Vice Rector for Academic Affairs (2001-2009).

She is currently a member of the Education Council of Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education Indonesia (Kemenristekdikti), and member of the Board of Directors, Open Education Consortium (OEC), and the Board of Trustees, International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE). She served as ICDE President from 2012 to 2015.

Her contributions in the field of higher education and ODL are well recognised. She has received numerous awards, including the Meritorious Service Award from the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU) in 2012, Distinguished Individual Promoter Award from the African Council for Distance Education (2014), and Doctor of Letters from Wawasan Open University (2014).

Prof Ir Tian has published numerous articles and books, particularly in the area of quality assurance in ODL.

Professor Dr Rozhan Mohammed Idrus
Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM)

Prof Dr Rozhan Mohammed Idrus is the Director of the Centre for Global Access Learning, Immersive Technology and Quality Assurance at USIM with over 30 years of experience as an e-learning analyst, consultant, presenter and workshop facilitator.

He is known for spearheading the University’s first home-grown electronic portal in 2003 and pioneering the use of short message service (SMS) in teaching of physics (2008).

His contributions and work on Open and Distance Learning and Technology has earned him many awards, among them were the award in mobile learning at the World Education Summit (2011), e-INDIA Awards (2010) and Asia Pacific Mobile Learning & Edutainment Advisory Panel (APACMLEAP) Mobile Learning Initiatives Recognition (2009).

He also won the Gold Medal Award in Innovation and Invention in Education Competition 2016 at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Gold Medal Award at the 3rd World Invention Innovation Contest 2017 (Korean Invention News) and was conferred the e-Learning Maestro Award in Higher Education at the 2nd International University Carnival on eLearning (2017).

Prof Rozhan has presented 52 keynote addresses in 18 countries and published more than 190 publications in international citation-indexed journals, books and handbook chapters. He is the founding Chief Editor of the Malaysian Journal of Educational Technology and Video Journal of Innovative Pedagogies (VJIP 2017).
